Isla Holbox is to the north of the
Yucatan Peninsula. It lies in between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
Yum Balam Nature Reserve is a part of Isla Holbox. This place, nestled in the
lap of nature, is perfect for friendly hangouts. You can meet friendly locals
and watch the flamingoes dancing around on the beach. It is a place which
maintains its distance from the crowds which infest Cancun. The island is tiny,
and dirt roads are present all over it like snakes. Incredible natural beauty

Getting to Holbox Island: Well, it is a bit of a bummer to get to Holbox if you’re opting
for a private airplane. It is true that this island has a small airstrip of its
own, but private flights to this place can be quite expensive. So, you should
fly from your home nation to Cancun. From there, you can take a private shuttle
which provides transportation
from Cancun to Holbox, booked via Oscar cancun shuttle. The vehicle will take you to Chiquila, a small
fishing village. You have to board a ferry vessel from there to get to Holbox
Island.
Things to Expect: Of
course, since it is an island, it isn’t possible for shuttle vehicles to
provide transportation from Cancun to Holbox. As already mentioned, you have to
take a boat from Chiquila. The locals there speak Spanish, so if you know it
already, then, it will come in handy. Holbox is a rising star among tourist
spots. Naturally, most people don’t speak English there. You must carry enough
cash with you at all times because there is only one ATM counter here. Only a
few established shops accept credit cards upon purchases.
Traveling at Holbox:
Holbox is a unique destination, and it doesn’t have any cars roaming around.
There is a series of golf carts operating close to the jetty. They are the
taxis that you can avail to get around. Another excellent mode of traversing in
and around Holbox is a motorcycle. Though you won’t spot many cars on the
roads, rent-a-car is yet another available for tourists.
Staying at Holbox:
Finding a suitable and comfortable accommodation in Holbox shouldn’t be a
problem either. There are several classy hotels here, along with Airbnb
accommodation facilities. The Casa Las Tortugas is a hotel that you can check
out. The place already earned a lot of attention from travelers to Holbox. The
hotel has a full-service yoga center and a spa. It is one of the best hotels
here where you can stay luxuriously.
Things to Do: There is much to do at Holbox, in
spite of being a small place. As you already know now, there are motorcycles
available here for hire. You can rent one and set out on a satisfyingly
lonesome journey to explore this remote and heavenly destination. Make sure
that you pay a visit to Punta Cocos. Spend the evenings at beach bars with a
glass of mango margarita in your hand. You should also check out Yum Balam, an
ecological reserve at the south side of the island. You have to rent a kayak to
get there.
Paradise In The Tropics: While traveling north of the Yucatan Peninsula, you feel as if the
worldly turmoil is receding to the background. Isla Holbox is a patch of heaven
which the gods gifted to human beings. This island between the Gulf of Mexico
and the Caribbean Sea is also a part of a Nature reserve. There isn’t much more
to say about this place because it can ruin all the fun.
